Our First Home

Nothing beats a 24 hour gym on Christmas morning.  Yesterday before his family woke we snuck back to the gym.  It's nice to start a holiday with a workout burning calories to make up for what we would consume later in the day.

Cale and I enjoyed our day with his family opening some gifts.  Great minds think alike when max Lucado's "The Story" was both given and received.  After the traditional Christmas dinner we vistited some more before packing up and heading to my parents house.

My favorite gift this Christmas came from my brother.  It was a framed piece of wallpaper from our first home.  The wallpaper was framed with an old window and wood panel from the entry way of the house.  The house was bulldozed this past summer.

Some gifts are priceless.  Thanks again brother. I love ya!

Christmas Eve

Today Cale and I worked out at Fitness World in Mitchell.  Brought back warm fuzzy thoughts of when we first met.  It also made me happy because the gym was completely empty when we walked in this morning.

Not much on the agenda today.  We planned on taking his nieces sledding but -16 degrees kept us inside.  Christmas mass was at 4pm so I spent the remainder of the afternoon enjoying time with Cale's fam.

My family opens presents on Christmas Eve and our stockings on Christmas day so I sat an Skyped while they opened gifts.  Christmas traditions are hard to break.  Wish I could have been there since we were only 20 minutes down the road.  I love time with fam but right now I am so cold I would rather be in the Bahama's.

Better be getting to bed early tonight I wouldn't want Santa to skip over me.

When they saw the star they were overjoyed.

Sunday Funday

Sunday morning Cale and I went to church at Holy Family in Mitchell.  Holy Family is the church Cale and I were married at and I just loved the fact we were able to go this weekend.  After mass we visited with some friends and updated Father Larry with all the new news in our lives.

After church we had to watch our Vikes play but Lauren wanted us to watch her play Angry Birds on the Cale's cell phone.

I drove to my parents house to pick up some cookies to decorate with Cale's nieces.  I loved pulling up to the front step to a frozen badger and Santa pended in.  I'd hate to know what mom does for Halloween decorations.

While I was there Halla showed me how she could do knuckle pushups.  Note the Christmas present she used so she knew just how low to go.  Not bad push-ups for a 6 year old.

I attempted to sew the buttons back on my pea coat but mom ended up having to help me.

Back to Mitchell to decorate some cookies with the nieces.  After we finished they took turns eating the left over sugar.

Christmas Vacation

Friday at 3:40pm could not come fast enough.  My bike workout kicked my butt once again.  After work Cale and I finished up on some Christmas shopping, returns and supper.  I went to yoga class that was so relaxing I almost feel asleep.

Saturday Cale and I hit up the Sanford Wellness Center to use our free day passes.  After my pool workout I bought my first gym membership in over 5 years. Ouch!

We packed up and headed for Mitchell to spend the next couple of days with Cale's family.  First we stopped to see Cale's dad who was home from school.  Ken is going back to school in Wyoming after a bad fall at work that shattered his ankle in 13 spots.  That happened over 2yrs ago while we were on our honeymoon.

Saturday night we delivered some Christmas candy to the Mebius'.  We walked into a wrestling match between the kids.  Bryce was teaching the girls some moves and then walking around scoring them.  Too funny!  Bryce has Ruby down for the count.

Maryah was having a birthday and of course you can't celebrate without DQ ice cream cake.

Christmas Candy

A quick good morning J It’s only Wednesday and my butt has been kicked!  Yesterday before school I got back on my bike trainer and did another quad kicker.

After lunch duty today Mr. Mike let me run the new floor scrubber.  It was just like a Segway ride, I’m easily entertained.

After school I tried and easy but difficult run.  The snow helped slow me down because the trail was not cleared.  Then I rushed out the door to try and chase down a FedEx EXPRESS before my power yoga class at 6pm.  Who would have thought FedEx EXPRESS and FedEx are different.
The rest of my evening was spent attempting to bake Christmas treats with my friend Lynsey.  We sure learned really quickly we did not spend enough time in the kitchen with our mothers.
Toffee: no candy thermometer so it might have been a little burnt, fail #1
Rolo Pretzel Delights: I’ve made these before in the microwave and you just nuke them on wax paper then smoosh them with a spoon.  We didn’t have any wax paper so scraping them off the plate and onto some tinfoil equals fail #2.  Second attempt put them on the pan in the oven like the recipe on the bags directs.  Success!

Puff Carmel Corn: Winner! Winner!
Chocolate Mint Marshmallows with Almond Bark: Burnt the first entire bag of almond bark on the stove fail #3.  Bag #2 melted in the micro, the marshmallows weren’t exactly sticking to the mints fail #4. Uhhh
Lynsey’s dog Cecilia wondering what is going on at this point.

Caramel and Rice Krispy covered Marshmallows: the caramel was a mess that would not get runny so we blamed it on the new Carmel Bits.  Tried adding a little water and that somewhat helped… is there a recipe for this we missed?
Almond Bark Pretzels: throw in the towel on the Chocolate Mint Marshmallows let’s just dip some pretzels.
At the end of the night there was a lot of pan soaking.  Why did we not make the easy Rice Krispy Candy Cane?

Psalm 30:2
Lord my God, we called to you for help, and you heard us.

Grammar has never been one of my strong points.  One reason I was hesitant to start blogging is because what makes sense to me might not to my few followers.  When in college I utilized the Grad students that helped with grammar and proof reading my papers before turning them in.

Our Christmas cards came in last week so I gave one to my parents Friday night and got a couple more ready for the mail Saturday.  Thank goodness I only had a handful of stamps because today my friend came to me with her Christmas card.   Oops, her face said I missed something.  I only missed one letter but it makes a big difference.

See if you can find my error without really looking for it.  If you have to read it more than once I will feel better about this.

I'm sure everyone has received this e-mail and passed it along to 10 people because they didn't want to know the horror that would come from not passing on the chain letter.   This little study explains my error.

Yep, I am a teacher!

Though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with this hand.

Home Alone

This weekend flew past.  Friday after my run I was able to spend a little time with my parents who came to finish their Christmas shopping.  Shopping for gifts stresses me out and gives me anxiety like you wouldn't believe.

You'd think this was a nature show with all my pictures of deer.  I just love seeing God's creations.

Saturday I blew another 4 hours shopping instead of getting my own things done which really irritated me.  I ended up just grabbing stuff way out of our budget and now it is back in my car with receipts waiting to be returns for gift cards.

Just tell me what you want and I will buy it for you or if it is out of my range I will gladly give you money to put towards your dream gift.  I tend to stock pile my tip money for my adventures or large things I need to budget for.  Its hard for me give ideas of something I would like because I hate knick knacks and feel like every time I have to go to the store I'm going to come home with some thing I didn't need and my apt will end up on the show Hoarders.

After all the time I spend in lines and traffic and searching for those perfect gifts the only thing to make myself feel better was this bag of sugar and it was amazing!

The weather was not very friendly Friday night or Saturday with freezing rain and snow.  I was asked to fill in at Chef Louie's Saturday night so thankfully it was not too bad of a drive.  I ended up waiting on a Christmas party in our back room that sat there for over four hours.  It was almost midnight when I left.  Better than sitting Home Alone.  (One of my favorite Christmas movies.)

Since my babe is away I went to the Catholic church today.  St. Joseph's Cathedral is so beautiful.  It was restored a couple of years ago and you can check the website to see pictures.  It put me back in the spirit.

After church I got Christmas cards ready for the mail while cheering on the Vikings.  Skol Vikes!

I ordered a new bike trainer to start training for an Iron Man this winter.  It came last week and I did my first workout on it tonight.  When I put it together last week I was to impatient to figure out the computer so instead I just set it up for my bike.  Tonight for my workout I attempted to hook up the computer but it was in another language so I gave up again and used our Ipad to figure my RPM's.

Let's get physical, physical! I also started working on an 80's cd for my physical education class.  More on that when it's finished.

Good things take time, as they should.  We shouldn't expect good things to happen overnight.   Actually getting something too easily or too soon can cheapen the outcome.

Sometimes I have trouble getting motivated to even leave our apartment because there is always something here to do.  My friend txt me this picture of her running outfit this morning.  Doesn't she look cute!  It love to match even when I workout.

I  don't spend tons of money on clothes but it is nice that I am justified to spend money on my athletic clothes and running shoes.  I am really good at saving until I can afford what I want.  Plus, if I like what I am wearing I feel better about walking around in public with spandex on.  50 Marathons will not give me legs like that.

Casual = athletic clothes,  not jeans and a nice shirt

My Athletic Clothes:
1. Wore daily to teach Physical Education
2. Wore to teach Zumba class
3. Wore to workout
4. Wore to lay around in

I don't have one specific brand of clothes I wear but I only run in Mizuno's.  Although I am a huge fan of Wave Rider's I have recently tried the Wave Creation.  Plus Mizuno makes sweet colors and that keeps my wardrobe fresh.

These past few days of running in the cold I have looked at all my clothes and thought I could use some more of a few specific items.

My Northface vest works perfect for colder weather because I can still move my arms.  I like to wear as little as possible when I run because I get so hot but I will take 10 below and a ski mask over a treadmill any day.

Tights or even capris I only wear Nike they Just Do It right!

I recently added leg warmers to my attire because I have a hard time finding tights that are long enough.  I picked up some black and grey sparkly ones from Khols after wearing some colorful ones I brought last year at Little Miss Matched

My hats come from all over.  My husband and I have a slight hat problem...

Another love are my Smart Wool socks.  They keep my toes nice and cozy even on a long run.

Gloves depend on how cold out it is.  I have a couple pairs of Under Armour that I really like but when it's really cold I wear my snowboarding mittens.

Here is my $0.02 on winter running gear.  After all Christmas is just around the corner.

What are some of your favorite pieces of athletic or workout gear?

Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically as something done for the Lord and note for men.

Online Shopping

Today was absolutely great.  Bus duty this morning went smoothy.  PE was in the classroom due to testing in the gym.  The weather was 46 degrees with little wind, made for decent recess duty and perfect running conditions.  I took a nap tonight and now I am  sitting on the couch online shopping sucking on my lemon drops from my "Box of Sunshine."

It's day's like this I find my life boring or normal.  It just feels so good to sit here.  Next I am going to work on typing up my address labels for my Christmas cards that I pray come tomorrow.

Box full of Sunshine

Brrr it was a cold one out there today.  Praise God for the blizzard!  I was happy to snuggle up to my husband for one more night and we both left for work at the same time this morning.  Unfortunately Cale had to turn back for a couple more hours since the Interstate was still closed.  He did make it to Grand Forks, ND safely around 3pm.  I'm not sure of the exact temperature but at one point during school someone commented on it being 2 degrees with the wind chill.  Recess for the students was inside due to the cold temperatures and if you would pray for below zero temperatures the rest of the week while I have recess and bus duty I would appreciate it.

I got home to the absolute best surprise ever!  I'm a little old school and love sending hand written cards and letters vs txt's and phone calls.  I've been blessed to have friends and family that don't just send Christmas cards but just random hello's!  They brighten my day.  Today my day was brightened by my dear friend Rachelle.  I had a package sitting by my door when I walked up the stairs and I was immediately excited because I knew I did not order anything.  I brought the package in and opened it on my table to the brightest surprise!

"You brighten my life with your friendship so I thought it was only fair to return the favor.  I am sending you a box full of SUNSHINE!  I hope it brightens your day"  Yellow everything!  Magnets, chap stick, mascara, body wash, band aids, highlighter, shells and cheese, headbands, air freshener and hand sanitizer.  Then lets not forget the variety of yellow sixlets, rock candy, Mary Jane's, lemon drops and jelly bellies.

Rachelle is the person I give credit for getting me into running long distance.  I was really good at track in H.S. but didn't run farther than the 300m hurdles.  She was my college roommate after finishing with her undergrad and being on the SE Cross Country Team.  We started running together over the summer and in the fall she talked me into trying out for the XC team.  Rachelle and her husband James are in the works of adopting from Haiti.  I will include her blog link here.  Please pray for my friends on this new journey God has placed in their hearts.

After giving my friend a ring and visiting on the phone with her about my sweet gift I bundled up and headed out happy as ever.  It was a little dangerous running but I don't like to wear my lil ice picks on my shoes unless I have to.

I had a bowl of chicken noodle soup and took a warm shower and then attempted to get some things picked up around our apartment.  My friend Lynsey and I had another yoga date so I forced myself to leave earlier tonight to get there before the rush.  Tonight was Yoga fusion and again a great class!  It was even better because there were only about 20 people.

Tomorrow morning we are going to attempt Hot Yoga and it just might do me in.

What a weekend this has turned out to be.  I was a little upset that my husband coming home took time away from my attempt to blog daily but who am I kidding he is way more important.  A highlight of my weekend...

I left school Friday by running out the door with a pile of pedometer papers.  I was already leaving 20 minutes later that I wanted.  I had a package to pick up at FedEx out in the boonies instead of the in town location, that got me lost and really upset.  Hello!  That took precious running time and seeing my husband.  After finally locating the package it was shortly after 5:30pm when I got home.  Go figure it was dark.  I whipped up supper and tried a new brussel sprout recipe.  Yum O!

We had some family things come up so that took most of our evening.  Around 10pm we headed to Falls Park to walk through the Christmas lights.  It was a little chilly but the new snow made it beautiful.

Saturday we headed out the door to Cale's nieces swim meet that was being held just down the road.  The girls are two very cute lil fishies!  My husband is pretty darn handsome if you ask me!

We woke a little earlier than desired for church because the snow plow was barreling down the road.  Along with trying to find a new gym we are also in the search of a new church.  I was born and raised Catholic but believe I am a Christian who attends the Catholic church.  Plus I just love the older Cathedrals so the newer churches are hard for me to have that sanctuary feeling.  Cale isn't much a fan of the Catholic methods; sit, kneel then stand aerobic workout so we agreed to find something new together.  This morning I took him to Embrace where I had only attended one other time.  We have lived in Sioux Falls for 7 weeks and this is only my third weekend here and Cale's 1st.  It was an uplifting service about how we sometimes bring God down to our level when he is so much Greater than Us.  Hard to walk out of church without being lifted up.  Back to the swim meet we went... church clothes an all.

After saying goodbye to Cale's fam we headed home for him to pack.  Why is saying goodbye so hard?  Cale packed and headed out the door.  I was hoping the snow advisories would keep in another day but no such luck.  Tears!  If it wasn't for yoga I probably would of sat around longer tonight depressed but I once again joined my friend for another class.  Holy crud do I sweat a lot!  Tonight was yoga sculpt and after I left there wasn't a dry patch on my clothes!  I love to sweat but not in a class where its awkward to break rhythm to wipe your entire body off.  I got out of class to three missed called from Cale.  To my excitement he was back at the apartment when I got home! I love blizzards.  Now for a late start for that couple extra minutes of snuggle time.

Trash Talking

When I left for work this morning I opened our apartment door to our neighbors bag of trash.  Is it really that hard to take it out to the dumpster right after taking it out of your garbage can?  This is at least the 3rd time I have witness this and we just moved in last month.  Gross!!!

By 8:30am I was very happy with what I had already accomplished at school so I immediately forgot about the trash stinking up the apartment hallway.  I rocked out holiday tunes over the sound system all day.  I even found a soothing holiday CD to play during lunch.  The Kindergarten and 1st Graders loved it.  When I asked the 2nd Graders some wanted it shut off.  They were over ruled.

The earliest I can leave school is 3:40pm and I actually had my work finished so I headed out the door.  I felt like I had time to spare so I stopped at the bank only to realize I had forgotten my wallet at school.  Uhhh, back to the school.  So much for getting even a short run in.  I got home for the second time and immediately had to get ready for yoga class.  Lynsey my high school friend met me at the studio.    We are still trying to decide if we want to purchase classes.  Santosha has drop in classes until December 15th for $5 a class.

7pm and feeling fresh!  Home for a shower and supper.  I made myself a cup of blackberry vanilla tea (AMAZING) and gave Cale a jingle.  Surprise, Surprise Cale was on his way home.  He tried to surprise me but I could tell he was driving and finally it came out he was coming home a day early. Yippee!

Praise the Lord.  How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!

Rush, Rush, Rush & Identity Theft

This morning I rushed out the door for work and forgot my cell phone.  I realized it was missing when I tried to call my husband before he started work. I can usually go without having my phone attached to my hip but it's harder to get through the day when my hubs is away. At this time I was already on my way to work and didn't want to turn around and be late because I thought I had bus duty.  I got into my office and sent Cale an e-mail that I would have to call him after work. Blah Blah Blah I love you bye.

Then I remembered I was having some issues with my credit card being declined a couple of days ago and had to make it a priority to find out what was going on.  Wednesday is my easiest work day because I have an entire 45 minute planning period.   Usually it is more like 4 minutes because I am tracking down missing pedometers....

The light clicked on that next week Wednesday I have bus duty so I grabbed my keys and rushed back for my phone.  By the time I had made it the all the way back to my apartment it was 8am so I called the credit card company on my way back to the school.  The lady started asking me about transactions on my account and when I denied them she told me my account had been compromised and she would be sending me a new card. Yikes!  Boy am I glad they caught that in time.  My husband thinks I am paranoid since I started cutting up expired cards into 40 pieces and distributing them out weekly in different trash bags.

After school I had a teachers meeting that I also forgot about so once again I rushed home to try and run before dark.  My legs felt heavy tonight and although I was going faster than usual I felt 80yrs old and sounded as if I had emphysema.  My boss from Mebius Nursery was in town picking up more Christmas trees so I showered and rushed back out the door to meet her for supper.

This is how I am feeling at the moment.   It feels so good to lay in bed, if only I were tired.

Two more nights until my heart comes home!

Pedometer Data

Each year, the Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) awards millions of dollars to schools and community-based organizations to initiate, expand, and improve physical education programs.  My school district received the PEP Grant last year with some requirements associated with continuous funding for the next couple of years.... (my brain might not be working properly so if that sentence doesn't make sense I don't really care.  I don't want to spend extra time thinking right now.)

To ensure funding the district is required to collect pedometer data and pacer test scores for all students K-12 five times a year for three years.  Where my exhaustion comes from today is keeping track of the little suckers pedometers.   Students are to take the pedometers home and the following day clip them on their pants after getting dressed.  Then before going to bed take them off, record steps for the day and repeat for four full days.  Pretty easy with the older students but remember I teach Kindergarten, First and Second- AKA Busy Bodies!  The pedometers are constantly swinging from their pants only holding on by the back-up clip.  For the past two months I have been handing them out, collecting the data, keeping track of who has not turned in their pedometer or paper or both.  Uhh, I am exhausted just thinking about it!  I have noticed instead of planning and preparing my lesson plans I am going over lists of missing information.

On the bright side of my day, after reffing some 7th & 8th grade Hoops I went for a run and it WAS NOT on a dreadmill! Whoop! Whoop!  I started packing my school bag this morning and throwing in extra clothes to wear with my ref shirt and then more for working out at the HS gym.  Then I realized I would feel safe running at night in the smaller town where I teach so just in case I threw in even MORE clothes for the cold weather if I decided to run outside.  The weather was a perfect 38 degrees with a small breeze.  My legs were a little cold in capris but it was WAY better than having to run inside or paying for a day pass.  Operation "In Search of a Gym" is still in progress.

Scoping out Christmas lights on a night run really made my night!

This was not from my run tonight but taken last weekend in Fargo, ND.  Those have to be the best lit trees I have ever seen!

Sharing Food Is Gross but I saw a 30 point Buck

After teaching Physical Education and classes of yelling students running around in gym all day many nights I drive home in silence.  Today I decided to eat my mac and cheese with the second graders instead of in my quiet office.  So there I sit listening to them talk about eating my lunch rather than the school lunch.  I told them I wouldn't share because I love mac and cheese so much.  Somehow my husband got brought into the conversation and how he would be upset because I didn't share.  From there the table talked about how gross it was to share food even if you were married.  I asked them if their parents shared food and one little boy said no but they kiss and that is gross too!  If you converse with young children on a regular basis you will find yourself laughing a lot.
It was another beautiful day for December in S.D. so I rushed home to get another bike ride in.  I had a friend meet me and we hit up the trails for a 45 minute ride give or take due to some nature watching.   He is a deer hunter and when I text him last week to work out he was unavailable because he was sitting in his deer stand.  I told him there were 15 deer on my run that night and he would have to come with me one evening next week.

So tonight we headed out and as soon as we hit the trail I pointed out the deer.  He couldn't believe it and almost started crying at the site of the buck just standing there looking at us.  I hopped off my bike and attempted but it was just a tad to dark.  I despise the fact that it gets dark so early especially since it is not safe for me to run at night where we live.

Usually my phone does a pretty good job with simple Kodak moments but unless you know what your looking for your probably going to think these pictures stink.  Oh well we could see the 30 points but the pictures make it very difficult.

Tomorrow my workout out will have to be done on a dreadmill due to reffing 7th & 8th grade basketball games after school.  Really looking forward to my Yoga date Thursday night with a old friend.

Speaking of friends.  This is my friend Zach who went to college with me but now coaches and teaches in TX with his dad.  Last Friday night their team won the 4th Round of Football playoffs.  Again, if you have never experience T.X. Friday Night Lights you might not understand.  I told him I would give a shout out so say some prayers for their team and cheer on the Frisco Centennial Titans!

My mom vs Betty Crocker

My mom always seems to spend her holidays baking for everyone which is one of the reasons I knew she would appreciate some help this weekend.  Anyone who has had one of my mom's sugar cookies brags about how delicious they are.  Betty Crocker better watch out!

After we were done with cookies mom tried on my compression socks.

She's now a fan and wants a pair for Christmas.  Does anyone know if ProCompression is having another sale?

On my way home today I delivered some cookies to my favorite boss.  I've worked at a Landscape and Garden Center for the past five summers and just because we have now moved I still plan on working for Gary and Ila next summer.  They are hands down the best people I have ever worked for.  They even sent me home with my own Charlie Brown Christmas tree.  Our new apt is pretty small so this is the first time in six years I have not put up a Christmas tree.

I sent a picture to my nice and she was not impressed.  The lil guy rode really good in my car...

Speaking of ride, I was able to get a bike ride into today. It was a short half hour ride ending at dusk but really good weather considering it was 64 on December 2nd in South Dakota!  That's got to be some kind of a record.

Christmas Movies

The afternoon off and I literally didn't touch my school work.  Dad was gone to work before I got up and mom was baking in the kitchen like all holidays.  I helped her with some Christmas cookies before she headed to work at noon.  I got a little circuit workout done in her basement before I headed into town for work myself.  Before I went to Louie's I stopped at Cabela's.  When I was walking in I saw this man going in with his children.  They looked like they were in trouble but I laughed at their giggles.

One good thing about having my husband gone for weeks at a time is I get to watch whatever I want on TV.  First I have to insist I don't watch that much TV but I do enjoy movies and Grey's if I'm home.  Being it's the holidays my TV has only changed between a few channels.  Today officially starts ABC Families 25 Days of Christmas.  Then there is also the Hallmark channel and Lifetime.  What can I say I enjoy the holidays.  I got home from Louie's just in time to catch the last couple minutes of Elf.  Not my favorite but still makes me laugh.

Glad to have Sunday off tomorrow other than slaving away on more of those Christmas cookies...
